Skeleton Crew rocks Seekonk!
During the weekend of May 21st and 22nd, 2011, 5 members of Maine Coast Runners with 9 dogs ventured to Seekonk, MA to run 3 teams in a tournament sponsored by Canine Mastery Jumpmasters. The day before the tournament, unexpected circumstances prohibited Team Captain, Shirley Rand and her German Shepherd, Chance and Cheryn Breeling's Australian Cattle Dog, Bean, from attending the tournament. After a bit of a scramble, Jessica Deutsch, a junior handler from Infurno, a New York based club, and Jumpmaster's Susan Deliberto and her dog Chili were recruited to round out the teams. The Sherwood Ultra Sports Arena was a fabulous venue. Astro turf provided a soft surface for dogs and people alike and there was lots of room for participants to spread out. Outside, there were several large fields for the dogs to play ball and frisbee. Parking was plentiful and convenient. All in all, a great location and a fun tournament! After all was said and done, Riptide took third place in the Regular 2 division, Tradewinds took third place in Open 2 (many thanks to Chili who ran rock solid all weekend, as usual) and Nor'Easters gave several dogs an opportunity to get a little more experience. Bullie the ShiTzu Pug mix ran his little (3") legs off and earned his Flyball Master title. |

Jump for the Stars II
During the weekend of June 11th and 12th , four Maine Coast Runners' teams traveled to Littleton, MA for Boston Stragglers Jump for the Stars tournament. It was a drizzly and cool weekend for mid-June but on Saturday, at least, we were able to gather outside under the easy ups. Kim and Acorn from ARFF and Cindy and Torre from Weston Whirlwinds joined the Tradewinds team and accrued a whopping 660 points for the weekend! The Fur Fun team, anchored by Border Collie Archer, afforded the greener dogs a chance to get some running time in.
Congratulations to Kim Minchin and her terrier mix for earning their FDX (Flyball Dog Excellent) title and to Blanche Couture and her Cockapoo, Wilson, for earning their FMX (Flyball Master Excellent) title! |
